Valentin Viktorov designed some of the most impressive posters of the post WW2 Soviet era. His work not only  commemorated important events in the Soviet political calendar but also episodes of real and significant achievement such as the USSR’s space program. This design from 1976 is based on a detail from Mukhina’s gigantic Kolkhoznitsa statue, designed for the Paris World’s Fair, 1937. Like the statue, this is a lovely example of socialist realism: crisp, clear and dramatic.

The poster is in a very good condition, un-backed and free from loss. One small tear along the upper edge and two minor folds are visible, the upper right corner is “dog-eared”. The poster is unbacked, with bright, deep colours. The biographical information typical of Russian posters is present along the lower border: printed Moscow 1976, with a print run of 50,000 – this is a very rare survivor in great condition.
