Uemura’s Jo no Mai (Noh Dance Prelude) from 1936 is used by Japan Air Lines to convey a message about their service: exquisite attention to detail is the central theme. The image is by one of Japan’s most famous female artists, Uemura Shoen, the first woman ever honoured with the Order of Culture (1948). The image was recognised for its cultural importance in 2000.
