A stunning art-deco design for Cie De Navigation by Max Ponty. The poster highlights the company’s Mediterranean, North and West African routes. The “Maréchal Lyautey”, the liner shown, was built in 1924 but scuttled by the Germans in 1944.

Ponty was a very highly regarded graphic designer active during the interwar period. Here, his design combines the liner’s outline and reflection to create streamlining and depth. The abstract waves add a sense of forward motion without removing the serene and calm feel of the overall poster. It is just brilliant.

Printed by Hachard & Cie, Paris, the poster is in very good condition. Unbacked, it is complete, free from any paper loss, nicks or abrasions. Overall, the poster looks very good with crisp, deep colours.
