An original Evening News newspaper stand poster dating from the 2nd week of WWII. The poster refers to the Nazi invasion of Poland, the “trigger” for the start of WWII. Launched on 1st Sept, the Nazis quickly over-ran Polish forces through use of their Blitzkrieg tactics & managed to encircle Warsaw by the 14th Sept. Warsaw held out for almost 2 weeks further but the Soviet invasion on the 17th & lack of Western intervention resulted in capitulation on the 27th. A fascinating early piece of WWII Memorabilia. This piece has been professionally cleaned & conservation paper-backed.
