Pan Am initiated the first round-the-world route in 1947 using a mixture of DC4s & Constellations. The flights departed either east or west from New York or San Francisco respectively. The route included twelve stops with Bangkok the mid point in the Manila/Calcutta leg.

The poster shows the Royal Barge Suphannahong with the Wat Arun temple behind. It can be dated from the early 1950’s period and carries both a reference to Pan Am’s iconic “Clipper” service and along the lower edge, the new corporate name adopted in 1950 (note: some posters exist on the market where the lower edge has been trimmed, a practice which significantly reduces the appeal & value of the poster for collectors).

This is a stunning poster, the quality of both the design and print really are exceptionally good. The poster has sustained some damage: a small nick along the upper right margin & a vertical tear along the side of the “H” in Thailand. This has been stabilised with light, acid free, document repair tape. Additional conservation work should be considered although neither affect the overall impression of the poster. In mint condition, this would be priced significantly higher.
