First used in 1923 to house massive airships, Orly became France’s main international air hub until Charles de Gaulle airport opened in 1974.

The poster is by acclaimed graphic designer Jacques Nathan Garamond, whose work is held in the collections of MOMA and the Smithsonian. His representation of the main attractions of Paris as stained glass windows whilst also championing Orly as the “door to Europe” is both daring and remarkably effective.

This is abstract design of a high standard, the more so as the poster is in exceptionally good condition and presents very well. The colours retain their depth whilst the fabric of the poster is free from any creases, nicks or tears. The pedigree of Air France’s graphic design is widely acknowledged and this poster would make a worthy addition to any collection.
