An undated newspaper stand from the London Evening Standard most likely from the opening days of World War II.
Britain declared war on Nazi Germany on September 3rd, 1939 following their invasion of Poland. RAF operations began that day with a reconnaissance flights and the dropping of 6 million leaflets over Hamburg, Bremen and the Ruhr. Offensive operations began on September 4th as 29 RAF bombers targetted German warships in the Elbe estuary. Eight bombers were shot down, the first RAF casualties of WWII.
This is a rare piece of second world war memorabilia. It has been clean and linen backed.
