Title: Adhèrez Au Touring Club de France
Artist: Pierre Bellenger
Size (cm): 52×77.5 [including linen backing 57.5x84cm]
Country of origin: France
Founded by enthusiasts in 1890 and modelled on the British Cyclists Touring Club 1873, the TCF pioneered the development of maps, routes, guides, hostels , campsites and even the adoption of road signs. One year after this poster was produced French workers gained the right to two weeks paid holiday under the Popular Front's 1936 social reforms giving a boost to the domestic tourist industry.
This is a rare poster by Pierre Bellenger which rarely appears on the market. It shows outlines of all forms of modern, mechanical transport of the time and two popular tourist destinations. The sense of energy and movement is enhanced by the spiralling pattern and the concentration of the three national colours of France as they converge on the central TCF logo at the centre. It's a simple but effective design which radiates energy and movement.
This poster is linen backed and in very good condition for it's age. It has a small (repaired) tear along the lower edge, a visible fold above the text and a very small piece of missing paper on the left side.
